Split is a firm favourite amongst Beats Travellers, especially after a week of sailing in Croatia. It’s not hard to see why as it is home to a bustling bar scene with lots of the venues set within a palace in the Old Town.
Academia Ghetto Club
Popular amongst the arty, young locals this trendy bar and club boasts a varied programme of musical genres and is housed within the walls of the palace in the Old Town square.
BOCCA Gin Bar
If gin is your thing, you need to check out this establishment. Sample one of their many cocktails whilst looking out over the port as their in-house DJ spins tunes long into the night.
Ran by a local poet this bar is set in the 15th Century palace in the Old Town. Apparently it’s the birthplace of the father of Croatian literature Marko Marulic. As well as being a jazz bar, it’s also a library so if you’re after soaking up a bit of local culture whilst enjoying some of the local wine, head here.
Leaning more towards the upmarket end of the scale, Hemingway has a large terrace for you to soak up the sun and watch the sun goes down before letting loose on the dance-floor. It’s situated down by the sea conveniently right by Poljud Stadium where Ultra Europe takes place this year.
Last but not least is Charlies Bar. Probably one of the most famous bars in Split and our favourite by far! Charlie’s bar was set up by two Australian backpackers in 2005 and has become the first and only backpacker bar in Split. From the moment you walk in you will be welcomed to your home away from home. With hundreds of travellers from different nationalities congregating over a shot, pivo (beer) or Adios Muther Fucka (Charlie’s famous drink) you will not want to leave. If dancing on the bar to classics, like ‘cotton eye joe’ whilst making life long friends. Charlie’s bar is for you.
If you’re keen to see these spots for yourself, join us as we set sail on our Sail Beats Tour this July or if you want to spend a Summer like no other and work at ‘Charlie’s Bar’ get in contact with Korana@Splithostel.com.
