Falls Festival Australia

Shops are filled with Christmas decorations, which means only one thing to the true party lovers amongst us, New Years plans.

There are so many festivals, and parties, around now it’s almost like a Christmas day smorgasbord, completely, overwhelming, spoiling you for choice.

Arguably the most iconic New Years festival in Australia is Falls Festival. Its been around for over 20 years, long before any other New Years festival came onto the scene. Originally just in Victoria, Falls has expanded first to Marion Bay in Tasmania, Byron Bay in New South Wales, and for the second year will be running a week later in Fremantle, Western Australia.

The name comes from the stunning waterfalls found in the Otway Ranges, the location for the original festival in Lorne on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road. What started out as a one-day festival has expanded into a four-day camping extravaganza, featuring contemporary music performances, dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other art forms, Falls Music and Arts festival remains true to its name.

Artists fly between the three locations throughout the weekend, meaning each crowd can enjoy the same lineup, more or less at the same time. Although each state has a different headliner playing the midnight slot on New Year’s Eve, with the likes of Flume, Peking Duk, Grinspoon, Foster the People and Liam Gallagher on the bill for 2018 it doesn’t really matter what state you are in, you are in for a treat.

We like to consider ourselves some what connoisseur’s of Festivals, and as far as Australian festivals go it’s hard to beat Falls. For one it’s stood the test of time. It’s no secret festivals, and live music in general, are encountering continuous problems in Australia. We also like that Falls attracts such a broad range of artists, from local up and comers to international heavy weights. And probably the final thing is the dedication to the overall arts community. Given it’s a camping festival it’s nice to have a bit of a time out from the crowds and dance floors, and Falls offers plenty of alternatives to give revellers some much needed downtime.

The final thing about Falls worth mentioning is that you probably need to get in early to get your tickets for Victoria and Byron Bay in particular. Camping Festivals are also the most fun when you have a crew with you, but one thing we have learnt is that if you have the right vibe, you will attract plenty of new friends camping around you!
